We're headed to NYC in April to see Hamilton and I've been watching fares on American Airlines and Southwest for decent redemption options with not much luck. Checked Southwest just for fun today and there was a great option from Hobby to Newark to 4,500 RR points! I've been getting some killer redemptions on Southwest, BUT for whatever reason, New York isn't a destination that routinely shows up in their fare sales so this was a welcome find! So now we have our outbound flight covered and we only need to find a decent return trip.
We applied for the Chase Hyatt credit card a couple months ago when they were running the 2 award night after $2,000 spent in the first 3 months. These nights are good at ANY Hyatt property in the world which can make for some crazy good redemption options. I booked us in a Park King room at the Park Hyatt in Manhattan and at the time of the booking the room rate online was $700 per night! There is no other way that I'd have ever stayed in a hotel at those room rates, so I'm looking forward to living a little high life for a couple days. I'll be posting up a short review after we go so you'll get to see what it looked like for us.
That bonus offer is gone, but the current one is for 40,000 Hyatt points which is still most of the way towards the same two rooms. You can spend 5,000 Hyatt points for a room at one of their lower category properties with an excellent redemption value as well. For example, I was looking at the 5,000 point rooms in Dallas three weeks ago and the rooms were at $179 PLUS taxes. That puts that redemption at 3.5 cents per point AT THE LEAST which is excellent. It's a handy card to have and I recommend getting it IF you are past 5/24 or don't already have other cards planned for your 5 chase spots.
